The Jackson Sideshow Rambles On…and On…and On
In life, Michael Jackson was a talented performer who went from cute little boy to the main attraction in a bizarre circus of a life. In death, he continues to do so.
He’s been gone a little over a week now, and the media blitz has gone from overwhelming to downright annoying. Two other celebrities, Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett, passed away in the same week with relatively little media attention. Their funerals were dignified private affairs for family and friends, as it should be. By contrast, Jackson’s already looks to be a major freak show.
Am I the only one who doesn’t see the Staples Center in Los Angeles as an proper location for a memorial service? Does anyone else find the distribution of tickets to such a service incredibly tacky? And they plan to televise this event for the world to see.
Not on any of the channels I normally watch, I hope. NBC already preempted programming for Wimbledon. Enough is enough!
I don’t mean to sound insensitive, but no one else seems to be too concerned with sensitivity in this matter. I wonder, do they plan to sell T-shirts or posters? Maybe photos of the gravesite?
Tacky. Very tacky.
But then, maybe this is normal for Jackson’s fans. I heard on the news the other day that some distraught fans had committed suicide in their grief. Are they nuts?
Forget I asked. That much is obvious.
There are several actors and singers I admire greatly. If they died, I would be saddened by their loss. But would I take my own life in despair? No way!
Maybe I leave a lot to be desired as a fan, I don’t know.
